Overview

In the class-obsessed and religiously divided UK of the early 1920s, two determined young runners train for the 1924 Paris Olympics. Eric Liddell, a devout Christian born to Scottish missionaries in China, sees running as part of his worship of God's glory and refuses to train or compete on the Sabbath. Harold Abrahams overcomes anti-Semitism and class bias, but neglects his beloved sweetheart in his single-minded quest.

It's time to go for a run on the beach - we're just checking our calendars to ensure its not the sabbath.  Join your favourite TransAtlantic podcasting crew – Ian, Ethan and Georgia as we're joined by REVEREND BRUCE (Hallelujah!) and review Bruce's pick of Chariots of Fire. We're hoping to feel God's pleasure in our 106th episode as we discuss:

  • Our own skills at running and why Britain is so obsessed with foot speed
  • Why we seem to follow 2.5 runners
  • We briefly discuss Meat Loaf
  • We talk if the world can still deal with a film that's overwhelmingly Christian in its message
  • We find some of Britain's tv and film royalty who have bit roles in this before their rise to fame
  • Who was the first pirater of music?
  • We spend over an hour with Reverend Bruce and discuss a plethora of topics.  This is one you don't want to miss
  • Whether or not Chariots of Fire is the Best Film Ever.
